DOE reports that transformers, circuit breakers, substation components, and power electronics continue to face significant supply-chain challenges, resulting in lead times of two years or more for certain critical equipment.

DOE also reported that distribution-transformer lead times increased from approximately three to six months in 2019 to roughly one to two years or longer by 2024, while lead times for large transformers serving substations and generators had grown to approximately three to four years.

SCHINEX Perspective:
Equipment procurement can no longer be treated solely as a downstream purchasing activity. Manufacturer qualification, technical specifications, design alignment, inspection requirements, FAT, documentation, logistics, and procurement strategy increasingly influence project schedules from the early stages of development.
